By the order of the Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Emin Amrullayev, the position of Vice-rector for Strategic Issues was established at the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASIOU), and the Executive Director of the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) operating under the ASIOU, Associate Professor Vazeh Askarov, was appointed to this position. By another order of the Minister of Science and Education, Vazeh Askarov was entrusted with the position of interim rector of ASOIU.
Vazeh Askarov was born on 15 October 1978, in Baku. From 1995 to 1999 he attended the undergraduate program at the French-English languages faculty of Azerbaijan University of Languages. In 2004-2007 graduated from 2 master’s programs of the University of Marc Bloch, and in 2007–2012 he pursued his doctorate studies at the University of Strasbourg. In 2012 he received his Phd degree.
During the time he studied and lived in France, Vazeh Askarov was recognized as one of the activists of the Azerbaijani diaspora. Since 2005, he has been the chairman of the Association of Azerbaijani Students in France (ASEAF/FATA), and in the same year, he was a co-founder and member of the board of the Strasbourg-based House of Azerbaijan.
Vazeh Askarov, who started his career by working in local and international companies in 2001-2003, engaged in academic activities in 2003-2013 when he studied in France. In 2013-2014, he worked as an adviser to the Rector of the Azerbaijan University of Languages, in 2014-2015, as Vice-rector for Educational Affairs of the same university, and as an Executive Director of UFAZ in 2016-2023.
Vazeh Askarov is a member of the Management Board of the New Azerbaijan Party. He is married and has two children.
