The winning "Sooners" team with first prize: trip to Toulouse (France) to defend their start-up project in the international final
The 24-hour hackathon as part of the international ActInSpace contest held at the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) under Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) ended on May 26 and winners were determined.
Over 100 students from various universities of Baku competed in 24 teams. Startup projects of students were evaluated by experts of IT and business fields (Ersnt and Young, Deloitte, Pasha Bank, Khazar ventures, Simbrella, Azercomos...etc.), and two projects made it to the final stage. Then final jury consisting of ASOIU Rector Professor Mustafa Babanli, President of the University of Strasbourg Michel Deneken, President of the National Centre for Space Studies of France Jean-Yves Le Gall and Chairman of Azercosmos OJSC Rashad Nabiyev selected the winning team "Sooners".
The purpose of the project of "Sooners" is to increase the precision of temperature measurements using special apparatus named “Cavity Box”. The main idea is the area, where this “Cavity Box” is going to be set in the satellite. The research gives the data about the benefits of the settled area and the novelty of used method in satellite calibrating systems.
President of the National Centre for Space Studies of France Jean-Yves Le Gall noted the importance of holding the competition in Azerbaijan and said that young people are interested in the field of aerospace technologies and through this competition, they gain an opportunity to demonstrate their skills.
Winners of the contest were then announced. UFAZ Sooners team became the winner of the competition in Azerbaijan, followed by another UFAZ team - Tensor Science.
Notably, the winning team will travel to Toulouse (France) to represent Azerbaijan for the first time in the international final on June 27.
