UFAZ student invited to the One Young World Summit in London

2019-11-13

Laman Jalilova, UFAZ second-year Chemical Engineering student and the individual winner of Skills Refinery Project, launched by British Petroleum (BP), was invited to participate in the One Young World Summit in London on 22-25 October, 2019.

Now that she is back to Baku, we are sharing Laman’s warmest impressions of the summit:

On October 22, we were invited to BP headquarters, where there was a meeting organized with BP scholars and delegates from all over the world. We were given information about the role of BP in complying with the Paris Agreement (within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) goals.

The last four days of the stay in London were devoted to the One Young World Summit 2019, that brought together bright minds of all ages who spoke on topics pertinent to leaving a positive impact on society. This Summit provided all the participants with the opportunity to strengthen entrepreneurial skills which are considered one of the most significant ones in the 21st century and build our skillset further

It was indescribably impressive hearing speeches from Biz Stone - co-founder of Twitter, James Quincey - CEO of Coca-Cola, Muhammad Yunus - Nobel Peace Prize winner, Mary Robinson - the first female President of Ireland and many other outstanding individuals who were sharing their insights on the significance of interfaith cooperation, strength of unity, climate change, low carbon economy, women empowerment, etc.

It was likewise very inspiring to network with people of just 22-25 years old doing such amazing work in their communities in various ways and creating change in their part of the world.

Being 17 years old, I was one of the youngest participants of the whole summit. Despite this, I have seen a lot of energetic and motivated like-minded people who were a real source of inspiration for those who want to bring a change.

All in all, this summit exceeded all my expectations - everything from the opening ceremony to the closing ceremony was tremendously interesting and exciting - a lifelong experience!

The annual One Young World Summit convenes the brightest young talent from every country and sector, working to accelerate social impact. Delegates from 190+ countries are counselled by influential political, business and humanitarian leaders such as Justin Trudeau, Paul Polman and Meghan Markle, amongst many other global figures.

The One Young World Summit 2019 sees the global forum for young leaders return ‘home’ for the first time since the inaugural Summit in 2010.  The One Young World Summit 2019 took place in London, United Kingdom from 22 to 25 October 2019. Delegates participated in four transformative days of speeches, panels, networking and workshops.
