UFAZ Scientific Conferences series 2019/2020 present: Prof. Pierre Collet and the Complex Systems Science

2019-09-19

On September 18, 2019 UFAZ Scientific Expert for Computer Science and Head of CSTB (Complex Systems and Translational Bioinformatics) research team of ICube Laboratory at the University of Strasbourg Prof. Pierre Collet (PhD HDR) delivered an engaging and interactive scientific lecture on “Complex Systems: a new science born in the 20th century, deeply rooted in the laws of physics” in the framework of UFAZ Scientific Conferences 2019/2020.

Prof. Pierre Collet introduced the audience with new science of Complex Systems using recent and ancient mathematical demonstrations. He portrayed how Complex Systems science unifies hard and soft sciences, and ways integrating Computer Science to various other subjects in the examples from the domains of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, evolution and sociology. To illustrate, among many examples, Pr. Collet demonstrated the possibility to simulate the development of an embryo through mathematical model/equation using supercomputers. He also informed the audience with “the first non-human technology” sent to space, which was constructed not by human beings, but by computer itself.

“The aim of Complex Systems is to study the real world by reconstructing model from observed data. Computers, thus, not only execute things we order, but create and propose new ideas none of us knew before,” stated Prof. Collet to conclude his conference.

Besides external guests representing ASOIUthe Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and other Research institutions in Baku, this introductory lecture was mainly organized for UFAZ first-year students from all specialities.
