The Board of Directors met on Friday March 19, 2021 to elect the President of the University of Strasbourg (Unistra). Michel Deneken was re-elected with 30 votes in favor, 3 abstentions and 3 blanks. He has been President of the University of Strasbourg since December 2016.

Michel Deneken is a university professor of Catholic theology. He has been teaching at the University of Strasbourg since 1989, where he became a professor in 2003; he was Dean of the Faculty of Catholic Theology at Marc Bloch University from 2001 to 2009. From January 2009 to December 2016, he was First Vice-President in charge of finance and then of initial and continuing education at the University of Strasbourg. In September 2016, he assumed the interim presidency of the university after the appointment of President Alain Beretz as Director General of Research and Innovation at the Ministry of Education and Research. On December 13, 2016, he was elected President of the University of Strasbourg.

Due to the postponement of the university elections due to the health crisis, Michel Deneken was appointed provisional administrator of the University of Strasbourg on December 13, 2020. Mr. Deneken is also one of the five main members of UFAZ’s Steering Committee.
