UFAZ Faculty takes part in the training program organized by Schlumberger

2020-11-26

Geophysics Professors of UFAZ and ASOIU participate in the “Petrol and PetroMod” Training Program organized by Schlumberger company. At the end of the 2-week program, professors will receive certificates for all modules. Upon completion of the training, the skills and knowledge acquired during the educational process will be applied in future research of UFAZ and ASOIU. Students are also expected to be involved in the research. Thus, the knowledge transfer, gained through training, from educators to students will become an important element of successful practical training of UFAZ students.

The range of modelling tools in Petrel allows generation of petrophysical properties and lithology models of reservoir rocks and source rocks, wireline logging tools collebration and correlation tools, fault modelling, facies modelling, and different 3D geobodies models. As soon as result obtained, we get detailed geological 3D model of a hydrocarbon reservoir that can be used in a further project for reservoir simulation.

In turn, the Petromod software used for oil-prone reservoir modeling in different sedimentary basins. It allows to obtain results in 1D, 2D and 3D spaces. Working with this complex tool requires processing a large array of data obtained in the study of the sedimentary basin history, its geodynamic and geotectonic history, the rate of accumulation of sedimentary material, and geochemical conditions for organic matter transformation.

Thus, both programs cover important research areas included in the course of petroleum geology, geophysics, geodynamics, tectonics, sedimentology, stratigraphy, geochemistry. The ability to operate in programs, combine skills and knowledge gained during the educational process, is an important element in the successful practical training of UFAZ students.

To recall, UFAZ concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Schlumberger in July 2019 that seeks to enhance and develop opportunities for internship and practical work for UFAZ students, as well as to foster educational and joint scientific-research programs.
