UFAZ Guest Lecture series present: Dr Yannick Hoarau, invited Professor of Fluid Mechanics

2018-10-12

On October 5 2018, in the framework of Guest Lecture series of UFAZ, Professor Yannick Hoarau from the University of Strasbourg spoke about his Research topic -  the “Numerical Modelling of the Aircraft Icing”.

He mainly covered the results of on-going research on aerodynamics in the MecaFlu team of the ICube Laboratory, Strasbourg University: a new approach of icing modelling with the use of Level-Set function, and the use of morphing (small/big deformation) on wings to increase the aerodynamics performances.

Dr Hoarau mentioned that “the airplanes should have still security measures especially when flying to the countries with extreme weather conditions like Alaska and Canada"When talking about airplane construction and flight preparations, Dr Hoarau mentioned that “we use our knowledge of simulation to solve the problem the wind flows and severe icing conditions to be sure in advance that it can fly normally throughout the whole flight.

Dr Hoarau will be back in UFAZ again during the spring semester!
