UFAZ Geophysics Students in EOST highlights
This is the translation of an article published in the EOST newspaper about the 3 UFAZ students in exchage semester this year:
The French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) was born as a collaboration between the University of Strasbourg, Rennes 1 University and the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University. In 2020, UFAZ will say good bye to its first promotion of students. The students will receive two diplomas upon their graduation. Among other opportunities that are offered to UFAZ students, one of the most important is the Erasmus scholarship that allows them to study one semester at any other university. This year UFAZ had three students from the Geosciences department who benefited from the scholarships and continued studying in the premises of the School and Observatory for Earth Sciences (EOST), which is a part of University of Strasbourg (UNISTRA). They arrived at the end of august to start the 2019 EOST program studies.
Elmira Hasanova
Elmira is a third year student at UFAZ who as well as others, will receive two diplomas – one from the Azerbaijani side and one from the Strasbourg side – this is what makes studying at UFAZ so attractive. Elmira is very attracted by anything that concerns geology and wishes to continue studying for master’s degree already in Strasbourg. This is why she decided to apply to the Erasmus program and spend the semester at the EOST. After two weeks of intensive French that she passed in august, she joined other students in the group. The progress in French will also allow her to take hydrogeology course that is not provided by UFAZ curriculum.
Zhala Aliyeva
Zhala decided to take part in the Erasmus program to “live the new experience” in the school of engineering and geophysics. Following three years spent at UFAZ where courses are presented equally by both Azerbaijani and French professors, Zhala is looking forward to exploring the French university system. She likes being part of the new culture. She admits that one of the most liked things here is that students presence in class is not supervised. Zhala is also here to improve her French and maybe to continue master studies in geophysics as of next year. Everything will depend on the results of this current semester at EOST.
Murad Ildarov
Just like Zhala, Murad is going to be a part of the first UFAZ promotion. He has spent three years in UFAZ and for him the university offered a lot of advantages especially compared to other universities in country. One of the great opportunities is of course two diplomas and a chance to study in France. There are more courses here in France that are taught by professionals. Murad likes discovering new methods of teaching here in EOST. Murad would gladly do an internship in France, rather in the applied informatics in geophysics. Everything will depend on his level of French that he will master during this first year in the school of geophysical engineering.
