UFAZ Responsible of Geophysics Bachelor Degree, Professor Alessia Maggi, spoke about the role of Geophysics in Antarctica
On March 9 2018, UFAZ Pedagogical Responsible for Geophysics Program Ms Alessia Maggi made a unique presentation on using the Geophysics theory in practice, or to be more precise - in Antarctica. The presentation was organised together with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASOIU chapter).
To study Antarctica and the whole world from Antarctica, scientists need to use the methods of seismology and magnetism. They begin research from the core and gradually coming up to the surface and even higher to the space. The conditions of living and working in Atarctica can be dangerous if you are not well prepared. Ms Maggi herself lived there for about three months. She was engaged in the installation of seismometres and the results analysis.
Ms Maggi is a professor of Seismology and the vice-director of EOST (École Observatoire des Sciences de la Terre) at the University of Strasbourg. Ms Maggi is currently teaching her course to the second-year students of the UFAZ Geophysical Engineering faculty.
