The forty students of the 3rd edition of UFAZ Summer School, that went to Strasbourg for two weeks (July 1-14, 2019) of French language courses and scientific and cultural discoveries are now back in Baku!

The program, organized by Strasbourg University exclusively for UFAZ students, offered students a rich scientific and cultural program, including intensive French courses and conversation clubs, laboratory visits, and cultural activities to discover the city of Strasbourg and its historical heritage.

UFAZ students had an opportunity to observe the demonstration of GPS measuring and visit the Laboratory of Mineralogy and Petrography with Prof. Damien Lemarchand and Laboratory of Geology and Paleontology with Prof. Marie-Claire Pierret, both invited professors of UFAZ as well as the RMN Laboratory (Résonance Magnétique Nucléaire) with Prof. Lionel Allouche of the Chemistry Faculty.

Besides sightseeing in the historical center of Strasbourg, the cultural program included a tour to the European quarter of Strasbourg and guided visit of the Council of Europe and the European Parliament.

This year we shared on Facebook and Instagram live diary notes with our followers called “My Strasbourg Diary 2019” - a short summary of students’ daily life in Strasbourg. Students shared some of their unforgettable memories of this summer school in Strasbourg. Here are some of them:

 “These 2 weeks helped me to discover France and its culture a little bit more. We had French classes in the morning, which helped us to improve our French language skills and knowledge on French culture. We visited a lot of historical places, such as La cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg, le Musée d'histoire de Strasbourg, as well as the Museum of Mineralogy, European Parliament and Council of Europe. It was very interesting to get to know more about French history and culture. We also tried some of their national dishes and they were very delicious. Moreover, we got to know the German culture as well and this amazed me so much that Strasbourg is the place where you can find 2 great cultures at the same time. The city is very different from ours - the architecture and the buildings itself are very beautiful, the city has an amazing atmosphere! I did not want to say goodbye to it, so I'm saying: "À bientôt Strasbourg! Merci beaucoup & Danke schön!"” Ismayil Karim, Chemical Engineering, L0 (year 1)

 “The Summer School that was held in Strasbourg was an unforgettable experience for all of us.
