2019-11-21

On November 12, 2019, fourth-year Oil and Gas Engineering students visited “AZLAB” Exploration and Research Center, one of the largest research centers in the region together with UFAZ Student Affairs Specialist Gunay Farzaliyeva.

QHSE Manager Seymur Davidov welcomed students and provided them with the safety instructions before visiting the laboratories. PVT Laboratory Manager Shamil Hasanov, gave comprehensive information about the equipment used in PVT (Pressure volume temperature) Laboratory, how to use them, how an experiment is done to analyze the structure of oil, and last but not least, how to do data gathering needed for later calculation in various oil companies that AZLab is cooperating with.

Students also visited Gas Chromatography Room and Oil Analysis Lab, accompanied by Analytics Lab Manager Yevgeniy Juravlyov, and received insights about the process.

AZLAB’s cooperation with BP began in 1996 when the GCA-1 well was drilled on the Chirag platform and will continue until 2024. During this period the center has been carrying out extensive tests of samples of the core, oil, condensate and gas taken from all exploration wells.

The companies cooperating with AZLAB include BP, Statoil, Total, Lukoil, EXXON ConocoPhillips, Karasu, Shirvan Oil, and Binagadi Oil and etc. Moreover, the company’s performance has received recognition from companies based in Georgia, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and they are actively using the opportunities provided by the research center.

Such laboratory trips are an integrated part of the curriculum of the Oil and Gas Engineering specialty of UFAZ.
