New academic year at UFAZ kicks off from September 14th

2020-09-15

On September 14, 2020, a new academic year is starting for both UFAZ Master and Bachelor Degree Programs. The classes will be conducted online until October 15, according to the schedule confirmed by the Ministry of Education in regard to the decision of Cabinet of Minister "On the organization of teaching and learning process in educational institutions operating in the Republic of Azerbaijan during the special quarantine regime." For first-year students, in-class courses will be starting from October 5.

Online classes will take place on Moodle / BBB platform of University of Strasbourg (Unistra). For the Fall semester of 2020/2021 academic year besides permanent faculty, 41 invited Professors of Unistra and Rennes 1, will also be delivering their lectures online. Having invited professors ensures UFAZ students to comply with the academic and scientific requirements of the Unistra and Rennes 1.

In the new academic year, permanent professors of UFAZ from France will also be communicating with students online due to the travel restrictions during quarantine regime. Currently seven professors from France are teaching for the undergraduate and graduate programs on a permanent basis.

To recall, since foreign teachers have been among the key elements of the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) since the first day, it has already accumulated necessary experience of online classes. While French teachers used to conduct most of their classes offline in Baku, they would communicate with students on the Moodle program of the University of Strasbourg and respond to their questions online when they were not physically in Azerbaijan.

To prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), under the new circumstances, the UFAZ lecturers, both local and foreign-based, switched to distance learning completely on March 16, 2020.

Students should also have technical means to join online classes, as each UFAZ student is immediately provided with a personal laptop, which could be used from the first year until graduation.

Overall, 537 UFAZ students continued their studies in the academic year of 2019/2020. 148 of them completed the first-year, 150 the second-year, 114 the third-year and 125 the fourth-year.
