Meet the new UFAZ Resident: Supercomputer

April 19, 2019, was an important day in the scientific life of UFAZ: Schneider Electric Azerbaijan sponsored a first machine of the UFAZ PARSEC Supercomputer, to create a scientific Computer Science laboratory. Gursu Baskan, Country Manager Power Systems at Schneider Electric, spoke largely about the rising role of the supercomputer in the business world as well as in the academic world. 

Mr. Baskan also spoke about the usage of the supercomputer in the “EcoStruxure” platform. This platform is the digital backbone connecting best-in-class operational technology (OT) solutions with the latest in IT technology to leverage the true potential of the Internet of Things.

While UFAZ received its first Supercomputer, soon 25 additional machines are going to be acquired for the students and faculty use.

The event moderator, UFAZ scientific expert and Unistra Computer Science Professor Pierre Collet stressed that the Supercomputer will also help to improve the scientific and engineering work of companies and institutions requiring high-speed computation.

During their presentation, Pierre Collet and UFAZ Assistant Professor Ulviyya Abdulkarimova described the EASEA framework used in the PARSEC super-computer. It will be used to teach artificial evolution, deep learning algorithms based on GPGPU cards, parallel programming, computer graphics and develop academic Research at UFAZ. Assistant Professor Abdulkarimova is currently using the Supercomputer for her Ph.D. at Strasbourg University.

Rector Mustafa Babanli, Ambassador of France Aurelia Bouchez, Director of High Tech Park, Tural Karimli as well as other guests from Azercosmos, ASOIU and ADA IT schools, and ANAS  had a chance to see a first demonstration of the PARSEC Supercomputer and to exchange with Prof. Pierre Collet and UFAZ Mathematics instructor, Ulviyya Abdulkarimova.
