Loic Cellier, Math Professor at UFAZ, September 2018
An interview with the new UFAZ professor from the University of Strasbourg, Dr. Loic Cellier.
What is your academic background?
Currently, I am a teacher and a researcher at the University of Strasbourg. Previously, I studied mainly Mathematics and Computer Science. I obtained my B.Sc. from the University of Montpellier and my M.Sc. from Sorbonne University (University of Paris 6 – Pierre et Marie Curie), specialized in Applied Mathematics (more precisely Game Theory and Optimization). Then I obtained my Ph.D. at the University of Toulouse, at the French University of Civil Aviation. I focused on Optimal Control approaches, models and the combination of numerical methods, in the context of Air Traffic Management.
Why did you choose the University of Strasbourg?
I was interested in this project, as this was a chance for me to become a part of international cooperation. It is always challenging to manage a lot of responsibilities, and I appreciate to be able to contribute to this new university project that is UFAZ. In addition, the University of Strasbourg offers a motivating environment. Therefore, it is a great honor for me to join the team.
What initiatives would you like to bring up while teaching at UFAZ?
I would like to build a fun and creative club, where mathematical activities and games can be mixed. Moreover, the exposure of our students to various points of view, learning projects, group activities, etc., will provide them with extra professional opportunities. In my opinion, at UFAZ we can celebrate several special days dedicated to sciences, along with exhibitions displaying our students' projects. Moreover, I believe that our students will be the best ambassadors of our university!
What are your favorite activities apart from teaching?
Enjoying the Nature (sea and mountains in particular), sharing good meals and discussions with friends, discovering and playing strategic games.
