Ségolène Royal, Ambassador for the Arctic and Antarctic, visited UFAZ

On July 5, 2019, UFAZ welcomed a special guest - Ambassador Ségolène Royal, French politician and former Socialist Party candidate for President of France and Ambassador for the Arctic and Antarctic, on a private visit in Azerbaijan. She delivered a lecture on “Climate Change” to UFAZ students and other guests.

Ahead of the lecture, the guest started her visit of the premises of UFAZ and received comprehensive information about the university.

The Ambassador of France to Azerbaijan, HE Aurelia Bouchez, Rector of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, Professor Mustafa Babanlı, Cultural Counsellor of the French embassy Johan Schitterer and UFAZ Director, Associate Professor Vazeh Askarov attended the event.

In her speech, Ambassador Royal underlined the influence of human-induced climate change, changes in extreme weather and climate events, such as heat waves, high temperatures on all regions around the world. She noted that climate change is a global problem that has no borders. To efficiently address this issues, nations 186 countries adopted in 2016 the Paris Agreement, within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the content of which was negotiated by the 195 countries attending the 21st Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 21) held in le Bourget in December 2015.

“Climate change is a global issue that needs to be coordinated internationally,” concluded Ambassador Ségolène Royal.
