Daniel Morvan, Visiting Professor from Chimie ParisTech: "I prefer noisy students, but curious, to sleeping students"

2018-04-13

The week of April 2-7 2018, UFAZ received a very unique professor from the National Graduate School of Chemistry in Paris (Chimie Paris Tech), Dr Daniel Morvan. Dr Morvan was teaching Heat Transfer class to the second-year Chemical Engineering students (L1).

In addition to his teaching career at Chimie Paris Tech, Daniel Morvan has travelled and taught in different parts of the world, which has greatly enriched his experience. He currently teaches chemical engineering to bachelor and master students at the Chimie Paris Tech and University Pierre and Marie Curie (Paris 6).

Dr Morvan graduated from the prestigious University Pierre and Marie Curie in Paris and acquired his Doctorate of State degree in Chemical Engineering in 1984. The University Pierre and Marie Curie is the biggest scientific and medical complex institute in France.

We had a very interesting and insightful talk with Mr Morvan who shared his impressions about French-Azerbaijani University: "What is so special about UFAZ is of course its students. First of all, their questions are always pertinent and to the point. Secondly, the way they are so friendly with each other and always act as a group and not in individual mode simply inspires me. This is something I appreciate in any university. I wish they stay like this and pass it to the next generations of UFAZ students."

What Dr Morvan also noted in his interview is that for him there are no good or bad students. Everyone has their own vision and its not about being calm and silent in class, "I prefer noisy students to sleeping students." Dr Morvan says with his open and confident smile. Student should always stay curious so that they make professor think and analyse his own knowledge too. Its a two-way street, where professor benefits from the class as much as student does.
