On July 31, SEG ASOIU International Geophysical Field Camp, which is the result of a cooperation between SEG, UFAZ and ASOIU held a closing ceremony at French-Azerbaijani University. Field Camp was sponsored by UFAZ, BP, Ei Group, SPA Azerbaijan and SEG Foundation.

Participants made a presentation in front of experts of water management in Azerbaijan and geophysicists.

At the closing ceremony BP Vice-president for Caspian Region Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli and CEO of Ei Group Ali Naghiyev welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of organizing such events, as well as the role of energy in our daily life.

Later the winner of the best presentation was announced. The team of Laman Huseynova, Gulnar Mammadova (UFAZ), Ali Mammadov, Fariz Karimov, Inayat Mammadov (ASOIU), Deniz Orta

(Istanbul Technical University) won the best presentation award. Winners and participants were rewarded with gifts and certificates.

Participants consist of 25 students from ASOIU, UFAZ, Khazar University, Istanbul Technical University and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals of Saudi Arabia.

From July 24 the field camp continued in Astara, applying geophysical techniques in the field (Georadar, Seismic and Electrical Resistivity) as well as some geochemistry tools (water pH and conductivity probes). The students learned how to use this tool on the field as well as process and interpret the data. Four instructors were from UFAZ staff and UFAZ alumni and one instructor from ASOIU.

The objectives of the camp were to image groundwater in the region of Astara, define the water level and heterogeneity of the underground to determine the capacity and quality of the aquifer.
