Azercosmos representative Tarlan Mammadzade delivering a presentation to UFAZ students
On May 30 2019, Azercosmos OJSC representatives, Tarlan Mammadzade Head of Azercosmos Research and Development Centre, Tarana Atakishiyeva Lead Customer Support Manager and Elman Alaskarov Remote Sensing and GIS Consultant delivered insightful presentations to UFAZ students on various project opportunities available for students, objectives of Remote Sensing and Satellite Imagery and its application respectively.
Mr. Tarlan Mammadzade provided insights on various projects available to UFAZ students, namely
4.Rocketry Azerbaijan Competition;
5.and last but not the least, NASA Space Apps Challenges.
These projects have been developed by Azercosmos with the purposes of increasing students’ interest in satellite projects in the country, supporting them to representing the country in international competitions and thus stimulating the national satellite industry. Activity areas of these projects involve satellite imagery, Artificial Intelligence, robotics, Virtual Reality, UAV.
Presentation proceeded with comprehensive lecture provided by Tarana Atakishiyeva on Remote Sensing Objectives - its platforms, development stages, types, formation and resolution of satellite images.
Later on Elman Alaskarov, Specialist of Azercosmos on Remote Sensing, continued with detailed information on Satellite Imagery and its application.
Event wrapped up with question and answer session by UFAZ students and Azercosmos representatives.
UFAZ students visited the building of “Azercosmos" station in previous years and were introduced about existing satellites and forthcoming activities of "Azercosmos".
Azercosmos also supported ActInSpace Azerbaijan 2019 by sending technical experts and coaches during this 24h international hackaton, besides coaching of UFAZ team "Sooners".
UFAZ third-year Computer Science student Irada Bunyatova together with the representatives of Azercosmos were in the Kourou city of the French Guiana to personally witness the launch of the Azerspace-2 satellite.
"Azercosmos" is the only satellite operator in Caucasus established on May 3 2010 and fully owned by the government of Azerbaijan. Having launched the Azerspace-1, the first-ever satellite of Azerbaijan, on February 8 2013, the company provides highly reliable, satellite-based communication services to enterprise and government customers for DTH, voice, video, data and mobile applications.
With the advanced design and flexible switching capabilities of the Azerspace-1 telecommunication satellite, millions of viewers are able to get an access to information and communications services worldwide. Azerspace-1 plays a role as an important gateway in a joint space that connects more than 50 countries in Central Asia, Europe, Africa and Middle East.
