On October 16, UFAZ students' team "AstroUFAZ" took part in the final round of the "CanSat Azerbaijan 2018" competition. The competition was organised by the Ministry of Education and "Azercosmos".

UFAZ team won the "Best Teamwork" prize. There were 31 teams participating who represented 11 universities, mainly from faculties of mechanics, computer science, process automation, math, physics and other engineering specialties. Only 10 teams made it to the finals including the "AstroUFAZ" team of UFAZ.

Among the special guests of the competition: the Rector of the National Aviation Academy, the Chairman of the Committee for Space Research, the academician Arif Pashayev, the Cochairman of the Committee the academician Roald Saqdeyev, the Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov, the Chairman of  Azercosmos Rashad Nabiyev and UFAZ Director Vazeh Asgarov.

The main purpose of the CanSat Azerbaijan 2018 competition is to increase interest in student satellite projects in the country so that Azerbaijani students may acquire the skills to represent Azerbaijan in international competitions, hence stimulating the national satellite industry.
