Pupils from Lyceum, named after Academician Z. Aliyeva visited UFAZ
On August 27, 10th and 11th grade students of the Lyceum named after Academician Zarifa Aliyeva visited the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ).
During the Energy4me project organized by the SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) ASOIU Chapter, consisting of students from UFAZ and ASOIU, the pupils first got acquainted with the UFAZ building and laboratory. Later UFAZ administration delivered a presentation about the specialties taught at the university, the opportunities offered by UFAZ, as well as the education and teaching methods conducted here.
Later SPE representatives informed guests about renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Students learned about the history of oil, the role of Azerbaijan in this field, petroleum exploration, global changes towards sustainability, its pros and cons, and current projects in Azerbaijan in this area.
After the presentation and quiz, students had the opportunity to conduct two experiments on "Natural oil seep formation and process model" and "Behavior of oil, gas and water in reservoirs" in the laboratories of UFAZ, the most exclusive technical facilities in Azerbaijan founded in 2018.
After the first experiment, pupils, working in the teams of 3, observed that three different substances (water, oil, syrup) created three different layers depending on their densities, and then the added materials such as grapes, sponges and bolts were staying at different levels again due to density. This experiment demonstrates the difference in density of fluids.
In the second experiment regarding the oil seep, pupils added clay and then water to a layer formed by the mixture of oil and sand, and soil and water and observed that oil droplets rise above these layers over time.
At the end, SPE representatives rewarded pupils with the certificate of participation.
