The emergence of a new science

How do new sciences appear ? How academics develop, establish and legitimize a new discipline ? The problem of « innovation in science »is crucial not only for scholars in all fields, but also for university managers and leaders in technology policy. We will address it through the example of Computer Science, which hardly existed in 1960 and has become a dominant academic field in less than 50 years.
