The Strengbach Catchment is a French critical zone observatory founded by the French National CNRS Research Institute and forms part of the OZCAR research infrastructure. This watershed is located on the Vosges Massif (880-1150 m) and is the site of the Observatoire Hydro-Géochimique de l’Environnement (OHGE). The area covers 80 ha that is primarily occupied by a managed forest (spruce and beech stands) on granitic bedrock. Meteorological, hydrological and geochemical data have been monitored since 1986. Pluridisciplinary research studies conducted on the Strengbach Catchment enable the exploration of the questions of evolution and preservation of the water resources in mountainous environments and of the soil mineral fertility and forest health, in order to model the future responses of ecosystems to environmental disturbances (acid rain, forest management, and climate change).”
